Northern Michigan University

Northern Michigan University is a public institution in Marquette, MI that provides over 170 degree programs at various levels of education. Spread across 360 acres, the NMU campus features award-winning laboratories, a newly renovated University Center, and a unique structure known as the Superior Dome - the largest wooden dome in the world, which serves as the home base for many of Northern's athletic teams and events.

NMU has a rich history dating back to 1899 when it first opened its doors to 32 students. Today, the university has approximately 7,000 undergraduates enrolled in various programs. Over the years, Northern Michigan has undergone several name changes, from Northern State Teachers College to Northern Michigan College and finally Northern Michigan University in 1963.

As the world's largest wooden dome structure, spanning an impressive 536 feet in diameter, the Superior Dome stands as a testament to architectural ingenuity and community pride.

Apart from offering students ample opportunities to get involved in campus and community activities, Northern Michigan University boasts breathtaking natural surroundings just minutes away from campus. Lake Superior, which lies just behind the Superior Dome and the athletic complex, is a perfect spot to enjoy warm weather and summer breaks. The Noquemanon Trail Network runs from campus to landmarks such as Wright Street Falls and the Reservoir Overlook, which is a popular destination for hikers and bikers. Additionally, the historic Lower Harbor Ore Dock and picturesque Presque Isle Park are just a short walk from the campus and are popular hangout spots for many NMU students.
